Frequently Asked Questions

Discover some of the most asked questions regarding Bleacher.

A bleacher in the edible oil industry works by passing crude or partially refined oil through a bed of bleaching clay or other adsorbents. These materials adsorb unwanted impurities, pigments, and residual contaminants from the oil. The oil is then filtered to remove the used bleaching agents, resulting in a lighter color and improved clarity.

  • Batch Bleachers: Treat a fixed volume of oil at a time. The oil is mixed with bleaching agents, allowed to react, and then filtered.
  • Continuous Bleachers: Operate continuously, allowing for ongoing processing of oil. They are often more efficient for larger-scale operations.
  • Packed Bed Bleachers: Utilize a column packed with bleaching clay or adsorbents through which the oil flows.
  • Filter Press Bleachers: Use filter presses to separate the bleaching agent from the treated oil.

  • Color Removal: To reduce the color of crude or refined oils, making them more visually appealing.
  • Impurity Removal: To eliminate impurities and contaminants that affect the quality and stability of the oil.
  • Odor Reduction: To remove any residual odors from the oil, ensuring a neutral taste and smell.
  • Vegetable Oil Refining: For processing oils such as soybean, sunflower, and canola.
  • Animal Fat Processing: In the refinement of animal-derived oils and fats.
  • Specialty Oil Production: For producing high-quality or specialty edible oils with specific color and clarity requirements.
